Two adults and a child were evacuated from a home at 1191 Grenoble Cres. late Saturday night after Ottawa Fire Services responded to a call about an attached garage fire.
Firefighters responded to a 911 at 11:40 p.m. and had the fire under control just before midnight, containing it to the garage.
It was determined that a cigarette left unattended caused the fire. There were no injuries and damage was estimated at $40,000.
Earlier, just after 4 p.m., firefighters had received multiple calls about heavy smoke showing at 261 Tandalee Cres.
That blaze, in an end-unit garage in a six-door row home, was under control at 4:53.
The homeowner was suffering from minor smoke inhalation and was transported to hospital by paramedics.
The cause had not been determined, but damage was estimated at $10,000 to the building and $40,000 for contents.
