A grey morning with freezing fog was the start to a Tuesday with a variety of traffic hazards in both Ottawa and Gatineau.
Here’s a roundup:
• Environment Canada set the tone with this warning: “Dense fog patches and icy roads are occurring in some locales. Fog is expected to lift later this morning.
“Visibility may be significantly and suddenly reduced to near zero. Travel is expected to be hazardous due to reduced visibility in some locations. If travelling, be prepared for areas of near zero visibility.”
• Ottawa police report several small accidents but none with major damage.
• Ottawa International Airport shows that most flights are arriving and leaving on time.
• Gatineau police advised drivers to be on the lookout for a herd of deer on the road near the Champlain Golf Course in Aylmer. Specifically, police warn they are on Allen Road, on the west side of the golf course. At least, that’s where they were at 8 a.m.
• Gatineau is asking drivers to be patient at some intersections during the day where Quebec public servants will be holding demonstrations. They are members of the Common Front, a group of unions that has been holding rotating strikes at schools, CEGEPs and hospitals. Tuesday is the second day of planned strikes this week.
