A crush of local Sikhs greeted Prime Minister Justin Trudeau at the Ottawa Sikh Temple Wednesday during his visit to celebrate the start of Diwali, or Festival of Lights. Trudeau gave a short speech highlighting Canadian diversity before posing for a series of selfies.
Sikh leaders urged him to implement a “more humane” immigration policy and allow for increased family reunification and to help bring about an end to Uber, a car service they say is depriving licenced cab drivers of their livelihood.
Diwali ends on Sunday.
