Residents of a 10-storey condominium building on Boulevard Maisonneuve in Gatineau’s Ile de Hull neighbourhood were forced to flee a smoky noon-hour fire Thursday.
Police said the fire was reported at 11:48 a.m. and emergency crews were greeted by thick smoke, prompting an emergency evacuation. The residents were taken to a STO bus that served as a shelter.
The fire was delared under control at about 12:30 p.m., but Boulevard Maisonneuve remains closed between Rue Saint Etienne and Rue de Verdun for cleanup and investigation.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation and there was no damage estimate.
