The union representing Ottawa’s public elementary teachers has reached a deal with the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board.
The tentative local deal Thursday come on the heels of a central agreement that’s already been reached between the Elementary Teachers Federation of Ontario and the province, which settled major issues such as wages.
Bargaining with teachers is a two-stage process. Terms of the local deal are confidential until it’s ratified by teachers. That’s expected to happen before Dec. 7, said the board in a statement.
It means Ottawa is one step closer to complete labour peace in the schools, which have faced various labour disruptions this year. One education union has yet to settle a central contract. Job actions continue by support staff, including office administrators, early childhood educators and education assistants, social workers and psychologists, at Ottawa’s public and two French-language school boards.
