Ottawa police have arrested 28 people in connection with a three-month anti-drug operation.

Focusing on the ByWard Market area, the police service’s street crime unit began Project Freeze in September, and over the course of the investigation identified 51 people as participating in the drug trade, police said Thursday.

Of that number, 28 were subsequently arrested and charged. All are from Ottawa and range in age from 18 to 58. The police are still looking for the other 23 people.

All told, those identified in the operation face 70 Criminal Code charges and 78 charges under the Controlled Drug Substance Act.

The operation netted police just over $20,000 worth of drugs, including cocaine, marijuana and MDMA, otherwise known as ecstasy or molly. About $8,000 in cash was also seized.

Anyone with information regarding this investigation is asked to call Ottawa police’s Street Crime Unit at 613-236-1222, ext. 4440. Anonymous tips can be submitted by calling Crime Stoppers toll free at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS), or by downloading the Ottawa police app.
