The union representing employees at the Slots at Rideau Carleton Raceway says workers could be locked out as soon as Dec. 16 and lose health and dental benefits if negotiations turn into a labour dispute.
In a release Friday, the Public Service Alliance of Canada, which represents the 124 affected workers, who include parking attendants, cashiers and slot technicians, said it has been negotiating with Rideau Carleton Raceway Slots management for a contract since May 2014. It said the union would cover benefits plans for employees if they’re cut off.
The Citizen reached out to the OLG for comment but has not received a response. But, in a “customer advisory” posted on its website, the OLG says it “will continue to bargain in an effort to avoid a labour disruption.”
The union says that the workers haven’t got a raise since 2008 and are paid less than workers at other casinos.
“We believe it’s only fair that after not receiving raises since 2008, the RCRS’s management should come to table with a reasonable offer that reflects the good work that our members do,” Larry Rousseau, regional executive five-president of the PSAC, said in a statement.
