Only two of the four teams invited to prepare detailed proposals for the redevelopment of LeBreton Flats submitted proposals by Tuesday’s noon deadline, the National Capital Commission says.
The two were the Rendez Vous LeBreton Group and the DCDLS Group, formerly called the Devcore Group.
Rendez Vous LeBreton includes Senators Sports & Entertainment, the company that owns the Ottawa Senators hockey club. It wants to build a new multi-purpose downtown arena for sports and entertainment performances, complemented by green spaces and residential ande commercial developments.
The DCDLS Group proposes multiple cultural institutions grouped around a grande allée, green spaces and residential and commercial developments.
NCC spokesman Nick Galletti said the other two pre-qualified teams – Claridge Homes and Focus Equities – gave no reasons for not submitting proposals.
The NCC will spend the next few weeks reviewing the two submissions to determine if they meet the mandatory requirements of the request for proposals. If they do, they will be presented at a public consultation on Jan. 26 and 27 at the Canadian War Museum.
The NCC invited the four teams last February to develop detailed proposals for the development of a primary 9.3-hectare parcel of land across from the war museum and, if required, an optional 12.3-hectare parcel to the west.
— More to come.
