Ottawa police have issued an arrest warrant for an Ottawa man in connection with a string of drug store robberies in October.

Police said the four robberies took place Oct. 3-5 at pharmacies at the 2100 block of Montreal Road, the 3900 block of Innes Road, the 3100 block of Strandherd Drive and 1500 block of Bank Street.

In each case, a man entered the drug store and produced a note demanding money and prescription drugs.

In at least two of the cases, a second suspect was observed outside the premises and a vehicle was seen waiting. In two cases, the suspect fled empty-handed. In one instance cash only was obtained. Only once did the attackers receive both drugs and cash from pharmacy workers.

There were no injuries in any of the robberies.

After the last robbery on Oct. 5, police recovered a stolen vehicle believed to have been used in the crimes. Police said the vehicle had been stolen from a home on Jasper Avenue, on the morning of Oct. 3, before the first robbery took place.

A warrant has been issued for the arrest of Joseph Arial, 39, of Ottawa, who has been charged with four counts of conspiracy to commit an indictable offence, two counts of attempt to commit an indictable offence, two counts of robbery, one count theft of vehicle and one count possession of stolen property.

Arial is described as being Caucasian, with brown hair and brown eyes. He is five-feet-11-inches tall, weighing 125 pounds.

A second suspect is also sought.

Anyone with information about Arial’s whereabouts, is asked to contact the Ottawa police robbery unit at 613-236-1222, ext. 5116. Anonymous tips can be submitted by calling Crime Stoppers toll-free at 1-800-222-8477(TIPS) or by downloading the Ottawa police app.
