Ottawa Citizen photographers are a talented group, and some of their best photographs have nothing to do with news stories, but are simply slices of life that they document as they travel around the city between covering news stories. Some of their best from 2015 are featured below:
JANUARY 5: A crabapple tree in Craig Henry is coated in ice as the region goes into the deep freeze after rain.
JANUARY 3: Wicked Wanda’s Holly Harris, left, gives Kelea Knapper a free pedicure in the window of the Bank Street adult store during the first snow storm of the year. Harris is giving free pedicures to anyone, man or woman, who is willing have one wearing only their underwear.
JANUARY 8: With the windows covered in condensation thanks to the cold temperatures, Jones Jelot is a frosty image while he waits for an order of jerk chicken from the popular Britannia-area eatery Do Good Food, which specializes in Caribbean food.
FEBRUARY 4: Kristel Dunn waits to cross Sussex Drive as the region experienced more snow.
FEBRUARY 27: Marc Trudel walks to work on Holland Avenue during a cold morning.
MARCH 2: Crews worked on the broken tracks, resulting in disappointment and frustration for riders of the O-Train, who were forced to wait for a bus as O-Train Trillium Line service was stopped.
MARCH 9: Elizabeth Matthews, 17, is reflected in a large puddle on Westminster Avenue as she heads home from school along Crossfield Avenue on Monday afternoon.
APRIL 30: “Charlemagne”, a German breed of dog known as a Leonberger, drags his master Paul Kariouk to the Lois ’N Frima’s Ice Cream shop on George Street every day for a free scoop of ice cream, thanks to the kind servers. The ice cream shop often provides a scoop for pooches when it’s warm outside.
MAY 28: A silhouette of Parliament Hill and the Peace Tower, photographed from the Convention Centre.
JUNE 3: Thanks to spectacular weather, the west lawn on Parliament Hill was packed with yoga enthusiasts, so much so that some had to move over to the east lawn.
JUNE 11: Kite surfer Graham Eaves enjoys a windy afternoon on Britannia Bay .
JUNE 23: It was a good day for kite boarders and windsurfers, with winds gusting up to 38 knots.
JUNE 24: The Quebec flag was proudly displayed on the beach at Parc des Cèdres in Aylmer to celebrate La St. Jean Baptiste day.
JUNE 25: This is what a city under construction looks like at lunch hour, row upon row of lunch pails and hard hats as workers grab their lunch around the downtown.
JULY 7: A runaway umbrella at the Rink of Dreams at Ottawa City Hall.
JULY 17: The Redblacks Cheer Team is out early to practice before the Ottawa Redblacks took on the Edmonton Eskimos in CFL action at TD Place.
JULY 17: Jackie Xu BBQ’s chicken skewers at the first ever Ottawa Night Market hosted by the Ottawa Asian Festival, which kicked off at Lansdowne Park.
JULY 20: Laurianne Bongono dominates her family game of tether ball against her father Kallas Bongono at Britannia Beach.
JULY 23: Assistant Drum Major M/Cpl Bianca Toledo is reflected in the Band Mace at the annual Fortissimo‚ a free military and musical performance on Parliament Hill.
JULY 28: Lucia Carbines performs as Miss A In a Bubble as The Spiegelworld Empire Show kicked off at Lansdowne Park with a ninety minute spectacle featuring singers, dancers, clowns and contortionists, acrobats and performers.
JULY 29: Barckly gets a nice water refreshment as owner Marc Bigonesse helps him out at Hampton Park.
JULY 30: Jason “Thrust” McNeely shows off some of his air guitar skills in Pinecrest Park. McNeely, who is Canada’s air guitar champion, is headed to the international competition in Finland.
AUGUST 7: Asian elephant “Marie” gets a bath between performances at the Shrine Circus.
AUGUST 18: Phil Mackenzie, left, of Rugby Canada practices at Ashbury College as Harry Jones looks on.
AUGUST 19: People scattered as a heavy downpour hit Britannia Beach.
AUGUST 28: How is your Friday morning going? A Pontoon boat was being hauled out of the water at Pirate Cove Marina, only to flip on its side.
SEPTEMBER 4: Liftoff of the 28th annual Gatineau Hot Air Balloon Festival.
SEPTEMBER 25: Brittney Grant, 18, of Brockville, runs with Ruby while competing in the Belgian horse part of the Heavy Horse Show as the annual Carp Fair, which has been in existence since 1863, got underway.
SEPTEMBER 28: A pedestrian makes their way through a rainy Byward Market.
OCTOBER 5: Thomas, right, and his brother William practice their handstands at TD Place.
OCTOBER 7: Shadows at the McNabb Skate Park.
OCTOBER 27: Sunset over the 417.
OCTOBER 29: A raccoon makes a rapid exit from its home as a cutting crew worked to dismantle a tree damaged by recent high winds in Westboro.
