Ottawa firefighters saved Christmas for many by containing a fire in a townhome complex near Montreal Road.
Several callers alerted emergency crews to a blaze at 326 Stone Quarry Pte. just after 10 p.m., and firefighters discovered a vehicle inside an attached garage was on fire.
The garage was engulfed in flames and neighbouring units were evacuated as a precaution. The residents of the house with the relevant garage were not at home at the time.
Firefighters had the blaze under control by 10:43 p.m.
Damage to the unit was estimated at $150,000, with some smoke damage also to neighbouring unit at 328 Stone Quarry Pte.
The residents were going to stay with friends while the damage is being assessed.
