The second driver of a vehicle involved in a head-on collision on Christmas Day has died in hospital, Ottawa police have confirmed.

Police say alcohol and drugs do not appear to have been a factor in the crash.

Investigators say the collision occurred at 4:16 p.m. in the southbound lane of Greenbank Road north of Fallowfield Road when the two vehicles smashed head-on.

A 30-year-old man driving an SUV in the southbound lane died at the scene, while his 32-year-old female passenger was transported to the trauma centre by Ottawa paramedics with serious non-life threatening abdominal and back injuries.

The 27-year-old male driver of the northbound sedan was transported to hospital by paramedics, who described his condition initially as “vital signs absent.” He later died at hospital, police confirmed.

Greenbank Road between West Hunt Club and Fallowfield was closed for several hours after the accident. It was reopened shortly before 11 p.m.

The identity of the victims have not been released.

Anyone with information or who may have witnesses this collision is asked to contact the Ottawa Police collision unit at 613-236-1222 ext. 2481 or Crime Stoppers at 613-233-8477(TIPS).
