The mild winter weather brought over 3,000 people to ring in the news year on Sparks Street Mall, to watch the “Maple Leaf Drop” and cheer fireworks on Thursday evening.
The annual event, featuring a country-music theme with headliner Cold Creek County, started at 7 p.m. on the pedestrian mall. But fireworks were also held at other venues in town, including at Centrepointe where an alcohol-free, family-friendly party was held, featuring magicians, sleigh rides and ice skating.
The Scottish Society’s Hogmanay celebration at Lansdowne Park also featured fireworks — and an early welcoming of 2016 when it landed in Scotland (perfect for those who preferred an early night).
