An Ottawa junior high teacher who molested a 13-year-old student in his office and during an end-of-the-year school trip was sentenced to two years in jail on Monday.
Phillip Nolan, 45, pleaded guilty in October 2015 to two counts of sexual interference for sex crimes the girl kept secret for 15 years.
Nolan, a music and computer science teacher, was one of three regular members of Herringbone, a Celtic folk band that backed up then-prime minister Stephen Harper, who played keyboard and sang in live performances in Toronto and Calgary.
After Nolan’s arrest last year, the Prime Minister’s Office said it was “shocked and disturbed” by the charges.
One of their last performances was on Dec. 1, 2013, and while police were quietly investigating the child-sex crimes.
More to come.
