A 37-year-old Gatineau filmmaker has been found stabbed to death at his Belize home, according to a report from Belize Breaking News.

The victim has been identified as Matthiew Klinck, whose body was discovered on Monday night with a “cut wound to the neck” in a village in the Cayo District of Belize. Klinck’s house appeared to have been robbed, according to the report.

Global Affairs Canada issued a statement on Tuesday night saying Canadian consular officials in Belize had been in touch with authorities there and were providing “consular assistance” to Klinck’s family.

“Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the Canadian Citizen who died in Belize,” reads the statement.

Klinck, who was born in Aylmer, according to his IMDb page, ran Make-Belize Films, a Belize-based film and television production company. Klinck’s film credits include Mad Dogs, a television crime drama, and 2012: Curse of the Xtabai.
