Ottawa police and the Ontario Provincial Police were called to Pinecrest Mall Chapter’s store Tuesday afternoon for what is being described as a mental health call.

Unconfirmed reports at the scene indicate a man may have harmed himself inside the store following a stolen car chase that began in Pembroke.

The building, including an adjacent Starbucks restaurant, was evacuated.

A sign on the door of the store states: “Due to emergency procedures, we are temporarily closed. Apologies for the inconvenience, we hope to see you soon.”

Ottawa police said they received a call around 1 p.m. Tuesday from the OPP for assistance in the matter.

“It was a case that originated with the OPP and we are there to provide assistance. We located a car that they had been looking for,” said a police official.

More to come.
