An 18-year-old woman has been taken to hospital after suffering a serious head injury in a rollover on Highway 416.
The woman was driving south on Highway 416, near the Hunt Club exit, when the late afternoon accident occurred. She is now in hospital in serious but stable condition.
The rollover was the most serious among dozens of accidents that plagued Ottawa roads Tuesday as a winter weather system moved into the area. The system is expected to deposit at least four centimetres of snow.
At Carleton University, police shut down the Colonel By Drive entrance to the school after a driver slammed into a traffic light standard, knocking it askew. It’s expected to remain closed until late Tuesday evening.
Police have warned drivers to clear their cars of all snow and to reduce their speed in keeping with the slippery road conditions.
