Members of the Barriere Lake reserve gathered outside Health Canada Thursday to protest changes to medical transportation that has led to delays in treatment, cancelled appointments and health risks, according to the community’s chief.
Chief Casey Ratt said pre-authorization from Health Canada is now needed for transportation to medical appointments.
Ratt said this has caused health risks for community members, including a newborn that he says needed urgent medical attention in Maniwaki but was delayed by more than four years while waiting for pre-authorization.
Ratt said he will hear from Health Canada on Friday about a possible solution.
