Ottawa – City road crews are preparing for plowing and the salting of roads and sidewalks for the snowfall and freezing drizzle starting tonight.

The City of Ottawa is encouraging residents to visit the Winter Weather webpage on ottawa.ca for information on the weather, including updates on City operations and tips on what residents can do in preparation for, and during, weather events.

Here is what you can expect, and what you can do, when there is:

Two to five centimetres of snow

  • City crews will be deployed to salt Highway 174, the Transitway, arterial and major roads
  • Sidewalks and cycle lanes in the downtown core will be plowed by City crews
  • Residents are asked to exercise caution if driving, cycling or walking

Here’s what to expect when there is freezing drizzle:

  • Crews will be out spreading salt and plowing roads and sidewalks
  • Residents are asked to exercise caution if driving, cycling or walking due to the slippery conditions caused by slushy then icy road conditions

To make the city’s sidewalks safe to walk on in the winter, the City has placed "do-it-yourself" grit boxes at various locations for residents to use. For grit box locations, visit ottawa.ca.

Service Requests

Residents who require a service from the City due to the weather are encouraged to submit a service request through ServiceOttawa at ottawa.ca.

For all emergency requests call 3-1-1. If this service is not available to you please call 613-580-2400. All other Service Requests will be triaged and addressed as operations allow.

Regarding the Where Is My Plow web tool, the City has completed initial pilot testing and analyzing the feedback and is now making adjustments to the tool. As a result it will not be available for this weather event.
