Two dozen men and women rocking out traditional Scottish kilts braved the cold and risked possible frostbite on Saturday to celebrate the birthday of Sir John A. Macdonald.

The first prime minister of Canada was born in Glasgow on Jan. 11, 1815.

Don Cummer, “skater in chief” for the Scottish Society of Ottawa, helped organize the second annual Sir John A’s Great Canadian Kilt Skate at Lansdowne Park. He says it all started as a house party to celebrate his own birthday, which he shares with Sir John A.

To find out more, Cummer encourages people to visit his website at www.kiltskate.com .
