Two men have been charged in unrelated retail-store robberies in Ottawa last week.
Samuel King, 25, of Thunder Bay, is charged with robbery, possession of a weapon, mischief under $5,000 and wearing a disguise after a man with a knife entered a convenience store on Carling Avenue near Carlingwood at about 12:45 Friday morning and demanded cash from the clerk. The man chased the clerk from the store, damaged the cash register trying to open it and eventually fled on foot with a quantity of cigarettes. He was apprehended by a canine-unit officer.
Last Wednesday, a grocery store on McCarthy Road was robbed at knifepoint of cash and cigarettes just before 3 a.m. Aiden Scott, 22, is charged with robbery, possession of a weapon and theft under $5,000.
Both men appeared in court on Saturday.
