Suspended Sen. Patrick Brazeau was injured in an incident at his rural Outaouais home Monday evening, and rumours in the community say the injuries may be serious.

So far there are few details.

The Sûreté du Québec confirmed its officers went to Brazeau’s home in the community of Mayo, a little northeast of Buckingham, about 10 p.m. Monday.

Police say there was no criminal activity, but they went to the scene to give support to the paramedics in case any was needed. Brazeau was taken away in the ambulance. Police said they didn’t know the extent of his injuries.

It’s not know what happened or whether anyone else was at home. In Mayo Tuesday morning township officials said they had no information, and Mayo’s director general said he didn’t even know that Brazeau was living there.

Brazeau was tried for assault and sexual assault last year until, after several days of testimony, he changed his plea to guilty on the assault charge and the Crown withdrew the sexual assault charge. He was given an absolute discharge.

At the time Brazeau said he planned to return to the Senate.

Brazeau is on a leave of absence with pay, though his salary is being clawed back to repay nearly $50,000 in disallowed housing expense claims.

More to come.
