Ottawa’s public school board has reached a tentative local agreement with the union representing its “educational support professionals,” which includes office staff in schools and at the board headquarters, librarians, guidance workers and IT technicians.

The tentative deal was announced Friday by Jennifer Adams, director of the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board. Details are confidential until the agreement is ratified, which is expected to be completed by Feb. 12.

The contract dispute led to controversy in November when office staff refused to unlock school doors for visitors. That was resolved later that month in central bargaining with the province.

The Ottawa board is continuing to negotiate with three other units of the Ontario Secondary School Teachers Federation, representing early childhood educators, educational assistants, psychologists, social workers and speech language pathologists, Adult English-as-a-second-language instructors and childcare workers.
