Ottawa – The City of Ottawa wants you to spend less time driving and more time having fun during Winterlude. Activities run every weekend from January 29 to February 15 with many taking place at City facilities: Lansdowne Park, City Hall and Shenkman Arts Centre.

Depending on where you’re going, and when you’re going there, here are some travel tips to help you get the most out of your Winterlude trip.

OLG Sno-Bus

This free service will take you between Jacques Cartier Park in Gatineau, Confederation Park (across from City Hall), Lansdowne Park and Dow’s Lake on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Sundays from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and on Family Day Monday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The service, which is sponsored by the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Commission (OLG), will run every 15 minutes. You are not permitted to board the bus wearing skates. Instead, carry your skates by their blades and use skate guards at your side to avoid injuries.

For more information, visit octranspo.com or call 613-741-4390.

Road closures

During Winterlude weekends, Queen Elizabeth Driveway between Laurier Avenue and Preston Street, and Laurier Avenue between Elgin Street and Nicholas Street, will be closed to traffic. These closures will be in effect every Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. and every Sunday from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. These roads will also be closed on Family Day - Monday, February 15 - from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Also, on Sunday, February 14 between 6:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.:

  • Sir John A. MacDonald Parkway is closed westbound between Vimy Place and Island Park Drive
  • Lanes are reduced on Wellington Street between Booth Street and Vimy Place Private
  • Vimy Place Private is closed

Parking

Parking is available at all municipal parking lots, including at Ottawa City Hall where you can take the OLG Sno-Bus to and from Winterlude sites. If you are parking at City Hall, please use the Elgin Street entrance.

If you plan on attending Ottawa 67’s games during Winterlude, your 67’s ticket gets you a free OC Transpo ride on regular public transit routes three hours before, during, and three hours after the game.
