Warmer weather has prompted the National Capital Commission to temporarily close the Rideau Canal Skateway until the ice surface improves.
The NCC says its crew “will continue necessary operations” to reopen the Skateway as quickly as possible, as weather permits. They urge the public to refrain from venturing onto the canal surface because freezing rain or water may hide serious deterioration of the ice thickness. For this reason they ask the public to respect the barricades and the signs installed at access points.
