A Value Village in Nepean was evacuated on Tuesday morning after police received a call about a potential “hand grenade-like device” in the store’s donation box.
Ottawa police arrived at the thrift store at 1375 Clyde Ave. shortly after 10:30 a.m. to find the device, and evacuated the building as a precaution.
The device was investigated by the chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and explosive (CBRNE) squad and deemed safe.
Police reminded the public to call the police service about items such as ammunition, explosives and firearms that need to be destroyed. “A police officer will go to your location/residence to pick up any such items for safe destruction,” police said in a release.
Anyone with information about Tuesday’s incident is asked to call investigators at 613-236-1222 ext. 2166 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
