The Winterlude kickoff party was held Friday night at Confederation Park and, for one night, at least, the weather co-operated.
Snow was still in short supply but evening temperatures hovered around –10 C, with the overnight low expected to dip to –14. On Saturday, however, temperatures were to rise to the freezing point, with a high of 7 C forecast for Sunday.
But party-goers still had to bundle up on Friday for the carnival-style street party that featured world-renowned Canadian artist Gregory Charles and a percussion stage show with Insolita, along with pyrotechnic effects and a cast of colourful characters.
The 38th edition of Winterlude will continue until Feb. 15.
