The Rideau Canal Skateway will be closed as of 10 p.m. Sunday.
The rise in temperature had deteriorated ice conditions, making it too dangerous to stay open. The National Capital Commission (NCC) has asked the public not to venture onto the ice.
Snow, freezing rain or water on the ice’s surface can hide the deterioration of its thickness, said the NCC in a press release.
The public is asked to respect the barricades and signs installed at all access points.
The NCC will work to reopen the skateway as quickly as possible when weather permits.
Until then, if the public has questions about skating conditions, they are encouraged to call 613-239-5234, or the NCC’s website.
