A debris field of shattered glass, tufts of pink insulation and splintered wreckage is all that remained Tuesday of Law & Orders, a popular burger stop along Highway 7, west of Carleton Place.

An explosion and fire levelled the restaurant Monday night, tossing debris high into nearby trees and clear across the highway.

The restaurant was bought by owner Jamie Law a year ago and earned a reputation for its hefty burgers. Its Rhippo Challenge promised restaurant fame for anyone who could down two half-pound burgers and a pound of fries within 20 minutes. It earned its most recent Yelp review on Monday (“Amazeballs”).

Police, the Ontario Fire Marshall and investigators from the Technical Standards and Safety Branch, which oversees the safety of commercial equipment, were at the scene Tuesday afternoon.

Friends of the Laws have already set up a online fundraiser to help with the family’s expenses at https://www.gofundme.com/ttmpgh64.

More to come.

Debris is scattered across the former site of Law & Orders burger joint on Highway 7 at Innisville, west of Carleton Place, the result of an overnight explosion and fire.
