A 54-year-old Ottawa man faces various charges related to child pornography and sexual assault following a year-long investigation by Ottawa police.
Danny Burgess was to appear in court Wednesday on charges including possession of child pornography and making available child pornography and charges of sexual assault, interference and improper touching that allegedly involved a boy under the age of 10.
His arrest followed an investigation by the police department’s Internet child exploitation and sexual assault and child abuse units.
In January 2015 the ICE unit received information from the Ottawa-based National Child Exploitation Co-ordination Centre regarding the uploading of child pornography through the Internet site Omegle.
In September, the sexual assault unit began investigating reports that a boy had been the long-term victim of sexual assaults that dated to the early 1990s — when the child was not yet 10 years old — and continued over the course of several years, police said in a press release.
On Tuesday, police, armed with search warrants, raided a home on the 8000 block of Jeanne D’Arc Boulevard. Officers seized several computers and various external digital media that are now being forensically analyzed.
“Investigators are concerned that there could be other victims,” police said.
