A 30-year-old North Grenville man and a 19-year-old woman from Augusta Township face a series of charges in connection with a Jan. 30 in which a suspect rammed an Ontario Provincial Police cruiser following an alleged gas theft.

Police said the incident occurred Tuesday when police in Prescott tried to stop the man’s car after he allegedly stole gasoline in Kemptville. The vehicle struck a police cruiser and an officer who was outside the cruiser on Edward Street and turned into an alley, where the driver escaped on foot.

The officer was taken to hospital for treatment of minor injuries. The police car sustained minor damage.

The suspect’s car had been stolen in Ottawa on Jan. 25, police said.

After security footage was circulated police arrested James Rush and Treasure Langevin at a home in North Grenville.

Rush is charged with assaulting a peace officer with a weapon and driving while disqualified, as well as five counts of theft under $5,000, two counts of fraud under $5,000 and other charges.

Langevin has been charged with three counts of theft under $5,000 and other charges.

The suspects are being held pending a bail hearing.
