Two people have been displaced after a basement fire in the Glebe on Saturday.

Ottawa Fire Services responded to a report of smoke visible in a residential building at 218 Strathcona Ave. just before 11 a.m.

When crews arrived, they confirmed there was a fire in the basement of the three-storey detached house.

The fire was under control by 11:30 a.m.

Two people will be displaced. Neither were injured.

Damage is estimated at $50,000 for the building and contents.

A cause has not yet been determined.

Stratchcona Avenue was closed netween Bank and O’Connor streets until about 1 p.m. will the scene was investigated.

Firefighters underwent decontamination procedures after the fire, due to possible exposure to asbestos.
