Ottawa chef Marc Lepine has made Canadian culinary history by winning the national Gold Medal Plates competition for a second time.
Lepine, owner of the unmarked Atelier restaurant on Rochester Street, won over 10 other chefs from across Canada in a two-day competition in Kelowna, B.C. He won all three events.
“This was an amazing culinary triathlon,” said head judge James Chatto late Saturday.
“The Mystery Wine Competition saw three chefs ahead and a couple lagging; this morning’s black box brought them all close together. In the end our 2016 Gold Medal Champion was the winner in all three of our competitions.”
Lepine also won the national competition in 2011, before sitting out for the requisite three years.
The event is a fundraiser for Canadian Olympic athletes.
