Three related crashes on Highway 401 near Lancaster on Saturday damaged a fire truck, police car and other vehicles.

The roadway mayhem began around 7:30 a.m. when the driver of a South Glengarry Fire Department truck racing to the scene of another car crash lost control of the tanker, which then rolled over.

Ontario Provincial Police soon arrived, closed a section of the westbound 410 lanes and rerouted traffic at the Lancaster exit.

About 90 minutes later, a car with two people inside went out of control and slammed into an unoccupied OPP cruiser being used to alert approaching traffic to the road closure.

The fire truck driver was taken to hospital with police said were non-life threatening injuries.

The 31-year-old driver of the car, from Mirabel, Que., has been charged with driving without a licence, insurance and a valid vehicle permit.

The chaos closed the highway for about three hours.
