The Sûreté du Québec arrested an Alberta man after witnesses reported seeing an intoxicated individual leaving Casino du Lac Leamy in Gatineau on Sunday morning.
Police said they received a report of an intoxicated individual leaving the casino around 1:30 a.m. on Sunday morning. Shortly afterwards, police observed a vehicle matching the description of the intoxicated man’s car, travelling around 135 kilometres per hour in a 70 km/h zone on Highway 5 near the Boulevard Maisonneuve exit.
Police pursued the speeding vehicle, which refused to stop and instead ran from police. The police chase ended on York Street in the ByWard Market area. The 30-year-old driver from Alberta was taken into police custody and found to have a blood alcohol level that was more than twice the legal limit. His identity was not released by police, however police said the man has been previously charged for driving under the influence of alcohol.
The man is scheduled to appear in a Gatineau court room Monday. He could face charges of driving while impaired, fleeing police and uttering threats. His vehicle has been impounded for 30 days. He also received a ticket for $1,294, and 14 demerit points have been added to his license.
