Heading into its final weekend, Winterlude finally has winter weather. Even the skating is improving gradually.

Winterlude’s final day is Monday, Family Day.

Most of the Rideau Canal Skateway is open, and finally one stretch is officially good — from a little north of the Queensway down to about Fifth Avenue. But the rest is still rated poor — or closed, in the case of the section from Bank Street to Bronson Avenue.

The Snowflake Kingdom at Jacques Cartier Park reopened Thursday morning after two scheduled days off. It will stay open through Monday.

The weather forecast is good, albeit on the chilly side.

Flurries are expected to end this afternoon, before mainly cloudy skies. The high should be around minus-15. Tonight should be mainly cloudy with a 30-per-cent chance of flurries before morning and an overnight low of minus-23.

Friday is again expected to be mainly cloudy with a 60-per-cent chance of flurries and a high of minus-6.

The weekend looks like true wintery stuff: Clear Saturday and Sunday with highs of minus-21 and minus-14 respectively. Overnight lows are expected to be minus-26 and minus-22.

And the show goes on with weekend events including:

• “Move It!”: Performances by the Redblacks cheerleaders on the main stage at Confederation Park, Saturday and Sunday, at noon and again at 3 p.m.

• Giant Tiger Interactive Hockey Zone, Rideau Canal Skateway at Fifth Avenue, on Saturday, Sunday, and also Monday, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Test your skills at the hardest shot, most accurate shot and obstacle course.

• Downhill skiing and snowboarding demonstrations at Jacques Cartier Park, on Saturday, Sunday and Monday from 11 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.

• Nunavut Sivuniksavut at Jacques Cartier Park, Saturday and Sunday at 1:30 p.m. on the Snowflake Stage.
Come enjoy cultural performances, including throat singing, traditional and modern songs and drum dances.
