Despite nearly $23 million in repairs, the roof of the TD Place arena at Lansdowne Park continues to leak, hockey players and fans discovered Saturday.

And that meant the postponement of a Ottawa 67’s-Niagara IceDogs game that was supposed to start at 1 p.m.

According to the 67’s website, the game could not take place “due to unsafe ice conditions and consideration of player safety.”

The Ontario Hockey League said in a Twitter message that the game now will take place at 7 p.m. Monday.

Meanwhile, the Ottawa 67’s responded to a frustrated tweet from @Matt_Wilson14, saying this week’s heavy snowfall and thawing can lead to roof leakage even in a refurbished arena.

Formerly known as the Civic Centre, the building was notorious for leaks almost from its 1967 opening. The Ottawa Sports and Entertainment Group spent nearly $23 million to repair the roof as part of a major redevelopment of Lansdowne Park.

Ottawa councillors voted in December to guarantee a loan to OSEG to cover the cost of the repairs, in exchange for the developers reducing the amount of their equity in the project.
