A Gatineau family is concerned about a 15-year-old girl who has been missing for nearly a week.
Destiney Dumais, 15, was last seen Tuesday night around 7 p.m. when she left her house to go out with friends, according to her stepfather, Reginal (Reg) Dumais.
The family has not heard from her since, despite sister Tabri Branchaud’s efforts to contact Destiney on social media.
Gatineau police have labelled Dumais’ case as a “runaway” and continue to investigate, said spokesman Jean-Paul Lemay.
But her sister doesn’t think Destiney ran away.
“Her I.D. and everything was left at home,” Branchaud said. “It’s not like her at all to do something like this.”
The family has heard that the night of her disappearance, she was seen with two older men.
Branchaud and Reg Dumais describe Dumais as a basic teenage girl really into her music.
“Since Tuesday I haven’t slept,” Reg Dumais said in an interview. “I’ve been out looking around the neighbourhoods where I think she might be.”
On Monday, he was putting up posters in Hull.
He said Destiney normally updates him when she’s out with friends.
“She’s stormed out before but she always calls an hour later and says ‘Sorry Dad, I love you.'”
The family has received dozens of calls from people concerned about the teenager.
“I’ve gotten calls from people I don’t even know saying that they’ll keep an eye out, its been an unbelievable response,” Reg Dumais said.
