Ottawa – City Council applauded City employees today for raising $385,276 for the United Way/Centraide Ottawa through the 2015 employee campaign. The money was raised through pledge form donations, as well as a number of employee-led initiatives and special events.
“The connection between the City of Ottawa and the community it serves is strong, thanks in many ways to the United Way,” said Mayor Jim Watson. “City employees began this year’s campaign with a goal of $375.000. Happily, when a goal is worthy and the effort is strong, goals are often surpassed.”
Dan Chenier, General Manager of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services, and Lisa Allaire, Chief of Corporate Communications were applauded for their outstanding commitment in their roles as Campaign Co-chairs.
“The United Way agencies help the City’s diverse communities with essential support and programs,” said City Manager Kent Kirkpatrick. “Giving is another way that City employees work toward building a better City—one that's safer, healthier, more stable, and happier for all of us.”
Some facts about this year’s City employee campaign:
“City of Ottawa employees care about their community. They show this in their day-to-day work but also through their generous support of the United Way campaign,” said Charles Bordeleau, Ottawa Police Chief and United Way campaign co-chair. “This year, their dedication will change the lives of 1,376 people who are most in need in our community. This is a tremendous accomplishment that every City of Ottawa employee should be proud of.”
