A 13-year-old boy was “intercepted” and taken into police custody after officials at a school in Alexandria saw the teen carrying a firearm on school property.
According to the Ontario Provincial Police, the incident was reported by school officials at around 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday. An investigation is ongoing and charges are pending, police said.
Police said no one was injured and the firearm was removed from the boy without incident.
Alexandria is a little over one hour southeast of Ottawa.
The OPP would not name the school where the boy was taken into custody. Reports, however, suggest it was Ecole Elda-Roleau, which is part of the French Conseil scolaire de district catholique de l’Est ontarien (CSDCEO) school board.
