We just cannot seem to get a moment to catch our breath, or repair those shovelling and de-icing muscles.
Environment Canada issued another special weather statement early Saturday morning, calling for more snow and freezing rain — possibly even ice pellets — all weekend, making driving conditions throughout the region treacherous.
Flurries were forecast to begin by Saturday afternoon, with a 60 per cent chance of precipitation, accompanied by a high of 0 C making the roads that much more dangerous.
Freezing drizzle mixed with snow was expected overnight, with a low of – 7 C. But thankfully, after the recent deluge, only about two centimetres is expected to accumulate on Saturday. However, about four centimetres of ice pellets are expected on Sunday.
To blame is an arctic cold front moving southeast across the region, but expected to hover around the east end of Lake Ontario on Sunday.
This, combined with another weather disturbance headed east, is expected to bring a “more organized” bout of freezing rain Sunday, particularly in the evening and overnight across the greater Ottawa area and St. Lawrence Valleys.
Meteorologists were warning motorists to take their time on the roads this weekend, particularly at night on Saturday and all day Sunday.
There will remain a 40 per cent chance of snow or rain into Monday, when the temperature is forecast to reach 1 C, with a low of -11 C overnight.
