A 38-year-old Gatineau man is facing attempted murder and auto theft charges after a 77-year-old man was found severely beaten inside his Aylmer home on Saturday.
The charges stem from a routine traffic stop in Ottawa that led police to the man, who is now in intensive care in stable condition.
Ottawa police pulled over a vehicle around 10 a.m. Saturday and discovered the car was not registered to the man behind the wheel. Ottawa officers contacted Gatineau police and asked them to send a cruiser to the address of the registered owner, to check on him and to see if the car had been stolen.
When police arrived at the home on Chateau Street in Gatineau’s Hull sector, they found the owner of the stolen vehicle unconscious and wounded.
Gabriel Tremblay was arrested and appeared in Gatineau court Monday afternoon.
The investigation, which is continuing, has shown that the victim, whose name is not being released, knew his attacker.
