A 25-year-old Pembroke Ontario Provincial Police officer has been charged after the truck he was driving collided with another truck which struck a parked car with a passenger inside.

On Wednesday, at approximately 4:25 p.m. two officers from the Upper Ottawa Valley OPP detachment were called to a collision in Laurentian Valley Township.

Police say an OPP 2014 Ford SUV, with emergency lights and siren activated, was headed southbound on Paul Martin Drive and collided with a westbound 2004 Ford truck which was towing an empty flatbed trailer.

The truck, driven by Andrew Hein, 25, of Pembroke, struck a 2015 Honda SUV. Driver Erika Sykova, 41, of Petawawa was inside the parked vehicle on Boundary Road.

No injuries were reported.

Const. Andrew Howat, 25, was charged with failing to yield to traffic under the Highway Traffic Act. He has been a member of the OPP for four years.
