It’s a good thing the winter tires are still on the car, despite the inevitable thoughts of removing them on this relatively-balmy weekend.

Environment Canada has issued a special “weather statement” about possible freezing rain on Monday, as a low pressure system enters into the Great Lakes region, causing unsettled weather throughout the province.

The meteorological service also said a freezing rain warning might be issued later on Sunday as the “risk becomes more certain”.

The rain is expected to begin very late Sunday evening, getting more frosty as temperatures drop. Sunday’s high was expected to reach 8 C under slightly cloudy skies, but fall to -1 C overnight.

The denizens of the city are therefore likely to wake to find roads and sidewalks slippery with ice, so caution is recommended.

The precipitation is expected to continue all day Monday, but will hopefully change to straight rain as the temperature reaches the expected high of 3 C.

Rain is forecast for the rest of the week, though temperatures are forecast at 11 C on Tuesday, but will range between 8 C during the day and -2 C overnight until Saturday, continuing the chance of some freezing rain and even snow.
