Wednesday is a bad day to speed or tailgate on West Quebec roads.
Sûreté du Québec officers have launched a two-day traffic blitz across the region, saying there has been a sharp increase in the number of fatal traffic crashes in the past year.
According to police, there have been 88 fatal collisions on West Quebec highways and back roads in the past 12 months, compared to 68 in the same period from 2014 to 2015.
On Wednesday, and again on March 24, officers will have a “blitz” of enforcement, the Sûreté says. It will target speeding, tailgating, using a cellphone while driving, failing to wear a seat belt, and other traffic safety violations.
