Be prepared for traffic delays Saturday as the City of Ottawa closes downtown streets for the St. Patrick’s Day parade.

Although the parade doesn’t begin until 11 a.m., the westbound lanes on Laurier Avenue between Nicholas Street and Elgin Street will be closed earlier, from 7:30 a.m. to 11 a.m.

The parade starts at City Hall and heads west on Laurier Street, blocking intersections from Elgin Street to Bank Street for the duration.

Once the green-draped paraders and floats reach Bank Street, they will make a left and travel south until Marché Way, near Lansdowne Park, where businesses will remain open.

The city advises that motorists can access the park either from Queen Elizabeth Driveway or along Bank Street if approaching from the south.

Roads are expected to be reopened for traffic as the parade passes.

The City of Ottawa also advises that the Laurier Avenue entrance to City Hall’s parking will be closed between 7:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.
