CIA mission
Staff and students work together to provide learning opportunities within a positive, goal-oriented, student-centered learning community. Our community acknowledges and supports diversity and individual learning styles. With a whole student focus, our programs provide for the student’s academic, social, and emotional needs. Success brings success and students develop the learning skills they need to achieve their Secondary School Diplomas.
Job Summary
Responsible for instructing students about the structure and content of the English language including literature, media studies and communication, rules of composition, and grammar. Assigns books and essays for students to read and teaches them how to identify themes, points of view, and other characteristics.
Primary responsibilities
Instruct students on interpreting literature .Assign books to read, including classics and contemporary novels.
Help students interpret literature and poetry. Provide background on authors' life and works.
Teach about different literary styles. Create instructional resources for use in the classroom.
Plan, prepare and deliver instructional activities. Create positive educational climate for students to learn in.
Meet course and school-wide student performance goals. Participate in ongoing training sessions.
Create lesson plans and modify accordingly throughout the year.
Maintain grade books and classroom. Grade papers and perform other administrative duties as needed.
Create projects designed to enhance lectures. Create course outline and unit plan.
Utilize various curriculum resources. Integrate competencies, goals, and objectives into lesson plans.
Utilize curricula that reflect the diverse educational, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds of the students served.
Work with program coordinators to ensure initiatives are being met.
Tutor students on an individual basis (extra pay).
Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities.
Prepare and distribute required reports. Observe and evaluate student's performance.
Manage student behavior in the classroom by invoking approved disciplinary procedures.
Keep records of assessment of, as, for learning.
Minimal qualifications:
B.A in Math or education minimum
One year experience
Additional Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s Degree in Math, education, or related topic
At least 2 years teaching experience in a secondary school environment desirable
Ontario certified teacher
Work conditions
Working hours: varies, depending on the courses offered but can include weekends and evenings, normally from 11:00am to 5:00pm, Monday to Friday.
Opportunities for self-employment: possible-teachers can supplement income through private tutoring. Owning wording space and life storage.
Career development
Opportunities for career progression and promotion tend to be limited though a higher level qualification can help advance those looking for a long term career in the area to more senior levels such as director of studies.
Salary
Salary based on qualifications and experience.
