Organizers of the annual Nuit Blanche say there will not be a festival in 2016, but they describe this as a pause to reflect, not a cancellation of the event. Still the organizers do not say there will be a Nuit Blanche in 2017 in their media release.
Nuit Blanche Ottawa Gatineau (NBOG) is an all-night celebration of art and culture that brings people into the streets and gets them involved with local artists, organizations and businesses.
“Growth and success often necessitates reflection; after a whirlwind four years, time is now needed to plan towards the future,” the statement reads. ‘We have talked to our community and we have listened carefully in the past months. A decision has been made for Nuit Blanche Ottawa+Gatineau to take 2016 to build towards many future editions of this event along with our partners, collaborators and community. There will therefore not be a Nuit Blanche Ottawa+Gatineau in September 2016.”
NBOG’s first two years considered great successes but in 2014 the pop-up festival appeared to lose momentum with fewer attendees and artistic displays. That trend continued in 2015.
