During one of the most chocolate-friendly weekends of the year, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has issued a recall warning for a brand of chocolate bars.
Ross Chocolates’ No Sugar Added Dark Chocolate bars are being recalled because they may contain milk which isn’t declared on the label, according to a release by the agency.
It warns people with milk allergies not to eat the bars, which have been sold in Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, Ontario and possibly other provinces.
The recall was triggered by a CFIA inspection and the agency is doing a food safety investigation which may lead to other products being recalled, although there haven’t been any reported health problems.
Ross Chocolates is based in Scotch Creek, B.C., about 85 kilometres northeast of Kamloops. The company website describes the firm as a leading North American producer of diabetic-friendly no-sugar-added chocolate which has shipped millions of bars as far as China, Dubai, Japan and Sweden.
