The 24-year-old woman who was shot on Easter morning planned to use her understanding of victims’ rights to work with youth when she graduated from Algonquin College.

Christina Voelzing, 24, was weeks away from completing a Victimology program when she was shot several times inside a Bells Corners home.

Neighbours said they heard several gunshots at about 5 a.m. at 11D Sonnet Cres., a four-unit building in a residential neighbourhood near Old Richmond Road and Moodie Drive.

Several neighbours said they heard a single loud bang three hours before they heard gunshots around 5 a.m., coming from the direction of the building.

Voelzing was taken to the hospital in critical condition but her condition Monday evening was not known.

Detectives with the Ottawa police major crime unit continued to investigate and had not publicly announced any new information Monday.

More to come.
